Frequently asked questions

"Are these your original design?"

No, but I'm very flattered that you think so! This style has been popular on Etsy for some time, and was elevated primarily by Kat O'Sullivan a.k.a. KatWise. A few years after I started upcycling sweaters, she published a tutorial giving her blessing to all who wished to make coats like hers. She continues to inspire me and many others to this day!

"Do you offer payment plans?"

Yes! I do layaway and can set up a series of custom listings just for you with scheduled payments weekly or biweekly. Contact me to discuss.

"What pattern do you use for your items?"

Most of my clothing is made intuitively without any use of patterns. The size and shape unfold naturally based on what materials I have to work with.

"Can I return something if it doesn't fit?"

Since all my pieces are made one at a time and without patterns, there is no set-in-stone sizing like with factory made clothes. Letter sizes are approximate, which is why I always post detailed measurements in my listings (the one exception being armwarmers which are only described with letter sizing). If you need to see whether or not something will fit before you buy, I recommend laying out a similar garment that you already own that fits you well, and comparing the measurements to the ones in the listing. I don't want you to be unhappy, so I will accept returns on **unwashed** items if something truly goes awry in the sizing process.

You can also try on anything you see in my Etsy at my shows! Contact me to see where I'll be next!

"How do I wash this?"

A good rule of thumb is "Hand Made Means HAND WASH." Though many of my items can survive a cold water gentle cycle in the washing machine just fine, I also cannot guarantee the results. Washing by hand in the sink or tub in cold water with minimal detergent is the safest way to clean these garments. For a fully lined sweater coat, spot clean only. To get more details for particular items, message me directly.

"Can I place a custom order?"

Since I devote meticulous loving attention to everything I make, and custom orders take up even more time and energy for me, I typically only solicit one custom order per year (if at all). I require that you supply all your own sweaters for me to use if I agree to do a custom order for you. I also require full payment in advance before any work begins. Contact me if this is something you're interested in!

"I added this to my cart and then it was gone! What happened?"

Unfortunately, putting something in your cart doesn't save it for you. Etsy now has a feature that shows you how many other people have that item in their carts. Whoever completes payment first is the one who gets it!

"I saw this piece in a show you were at, and now it's on Etsy at a higher price."

Etsy now requires sellers to offer free shipping for orders over $35 (or risk being bumped down in visibility). This means that in order to absorb this cost, my prices on larger items must go up. Photographing and listing items on Etsy is also more work for me than hanging them up at a fair or festival and sitting in my chair waiting for people to walk by. Long story short, buying from me in person at a show is less expensive for both of us! I always post my show dates as far in advance as I can both here on Etsy and on my social media channels, and if you want to know when I'll be in your area, you can always message me and ask.

"Do you barter/do trades?"

Absolutely! I love bartering! Please message me with what you have to offer. :)
